General Info

What is an independent film?
An independent film is a film that is conceived and created outside of the studio system. These films generally have lower budgets than typical Hollywood films, and are often the result of many years of hard work on the part of very passionate filmmakers. Many times these films tell a story that is unusual, personal and edgy.

How are films selected?
Films are submitted to a screening committee selected by the festival coordinators. This committee is made up of people dedicated to the art of cinema. From the submissions, films are selected and a program of screenings is created. In the case of RiverRun, these screenings will take place over eleven days in 2010. A wide variety of films will be shown, and many of the filmmakers will gather at the festival to see and celebrate each others’ work.

What else is happening besides film screenings?
Along with the screenings of films from around the world, RiverRun has planned many special events, workshops, panels and parties. For information on the best in attractions, shopping, and restaurants, check out our printable Travel Itinerary* for RiverRun 2010.

Where can I park?
For the third consecutive year RiverRun International Film Festival is pleased to offer a shuttle service to the ACE Theater located on campus at UNCSA. The shuttle service originates at the Gateway YWCA located at 1300 S. Main Street.  This year we will also offer roundtrip service to the Ace Theater from our official hotel, The Hawthorne Inn. That shuttle will run approximately every 30 minutes. For a more detailed description of parking/shuttle services, please check our *parking info.
How should I dress?
The dress is casual for most events and screenings. The Opening Night Gala is considered a semi-formal event.

Will there be food service at the different venues?
*Margaret/Jenny

How can I get the most out of attending the festival?
Read the film descriptions on the website. They provide detailed information and will help guide you in your selections. A *Ticket Sampler at $100 is the best value. This pass allows admittance to all public films, panels and parties. -----add hotel sponsor and package info/links

How can I volunteer?

Ticketing

When do I need arrive at a screening if I have a ticket?
Even if you hold an advanced purchase ticket to a film screening, you MUST be at the screening 15 minutes before it begins in order to gain access to the movie. Holding a ticket does not guarantee entry to a screening if you arrive less than 15 minutes before the screening begins.

When do I need to arrive at a screening if I don’t have a ticket?
You can purchase tickets for a particular screening at the box office beginning one hour before a screening. Our tickets are sold on a first come, first serve basis. You still must be at the theater 15 minutes before the screening to gain entry.

What if there is a sold-out screening?
Entry to screenings that are sold out is still likely; in order to gain entry, you must stand in the Rush Line, beginning one hour before a screening. Standing in the Rush Line does not guarantee a place in the screening; Rush tickets go on sale beginning 15 minutes before the screening begins and ticket availability is based entirely on unfulfilled tickets that have been previously purchased for the particular screening; this is why you must be at a screening 15 minutes before it begins. For more detailed info on using the Rush Line, please read our *blog.

How do I use my ticket sampler to buy tickets?
Simply take your sampler to a box office, ask for a ticket to a particular screening, and present your Ticket Sampler. The box office will punch the appropriate number for holes for the screening price/quantity.

Can I use my Ticket Sampler to purchase Rush tickets?
Yes.
