Well I hope you all were able to dig out the summer duds before heat exhaustion took hold, because this freeloading summer just sort of showed up on the doorstep in all its 90+ degree glory one day in May and I guess is here to stay for the foreseeable future.  No big adjustment really as your freeloading sons and daughters were all coming home soon with school wrapping up, but still, a heads up would have been nice right?  We love summer--heck, we even showed (500) Days of it as our opening night film a few years back--but a few non-atomic days of late spring would have been welcome too.

Anyway we've got a few air-conditioned things coming down the pipe for you in June, first and foremost of which is our June Cineclub screening at a/perture on Monday, June 13.  You'll be pleased to know that the film is an encore presentation of Ava DuVernay's crowd-pleaser from this year's festival I Will Follow.  Those of you who missed it amid all the other excitement during RiverRun will get another chance to catch it and escape the heat for a few hours to boot.  As always showtime is 8pm, and tickets are $10 ($6 for a/v society members).

Also as an early birthday present to the incomparable film editor and sound designer Walter Murch, we're going to be cutting and splicing prices of leftover gear from RiverRun 2011 with a blowout Merch Sale on June 28th!  Come down to RiverRun HQ (in the Chatham Building) between 4:00pm and 7:30pm on Tuesday, 6/28 for free refreshments and a chance to pick up some snazzy RiverRun merch (t-shirts, hoodies, water bottles, etc) at significantly discounted prices.  We recommend getting there early as inventory is pretty well depleted.  Cash, personal checks and credit cards will all be accepted, and no pressure, but they do make great belated Father's Day gifts (it's OK, fathers understand).

And a brief fair warning, the July installment of Cineclub will feature the recent Dutch WWII drama Winter in Wartime on July 11.  More details on that in a future transmission.  Until then try to find some shade and take shelter--movie theaters are ideal places to seek refuge!
