Mr. Elmo Rising

Mr. Elmo Rising

Well first and foremost, here's wishing all of you out there a Happy Halloween from the entire RiverRun staff.  Full disclosure, I was extremely driven to put a good costume together this year, but was unfortunately thwarted by a bafflingly slow production schedule in the fashion department.  I could have been a real hero.  Seriously, how many of these beauties do you think they could have sold if they were stocked in time for Halloween? Click here to see exactly what I'm talking about.

The most pressing order of the day, however, is to tout the excitement surrounding our first-ever Fall Film Premiere event happening next Wednesday, November 9th--and the film is a good one!  We'll be bringing Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey to the Stevens Center next Wednesday at 7:00, and are hosting a VIP Reception beforehand for those who want to help us kick off the 2012 Festival cycle in style.  The film has been blowing up in the media, and Kevin Clash (creator of Sesame Street's Elmo and focus of the doc) has popped up all over the place, from The Daily Show and The View to CNN and New York Magazine, as the film opened theatrically in New York City last weekend.  It's a fantastic story and a true crowd pleaser, and best of all it's family friendly!  We recommend it for children ages 8 and up...it is a documentary after all, so it might be a bit much for some younger, squirmier humans to sit still through.  For those of you in the community who've been looking for an enticing reason to contribute to RiverRun, the VIP Reception and Film ticket is the way to go.  For $60 you get a ticket to the film as well as access to our pre-film VIP Party at 5:30, featuring an array of McRitchie wine, cocktails from Piedmont Distillers and heavy hors d'oeuvres from Willows Bistro, amongst other fineries.  Tickets for just the film are $15 (or $7 for students and children under 18), but why not make an evening of it?  We've also got some nice goodies to give away after the screening, courtesy of Dewey's Bakery and Primo Water.  All tickets are available through the Stevens Center box office, or online--click through to our Being Elmo page for full details and online purchase links.  Here's a trailer for the film to wet your whistles a little bit in the short term.

I should also mention that RiverRun is in fact hiring!  We're looking for a few good men and/or women to help out with various temporary/seasonal positions with the Festival in the coming weeks and months.  For further details on what we're looking for check out our newly created Jobs page on the website.  And yes, all the jobs listed on the site are indeed paid positions.

And by the way, if you're reading this hopefully you've noticed the nifty new website redesign that just went live last week, courtesy of Kilpatrick Design.  We really love the new digs and hope that you do too.  Anyway that's the story from West Fourth Street for now, we hope to see all of you down at The Stevens Center next Wednesday for Being Elmo!
