Where are they now?
We've gotten so many updates from the RiverRun filmmaker classes of 2010 and 2011 that we just had to share all of the outstanding news with you, in keeping with the graduation season. In no particular order:
- Ava DuVernay's film I Will Follow has been released in theaters nationwide, and Ava recently had some really flattering things to say about RiverRun in a guest column she wrote for Indiewire titled "What Color is Indie?".
- Alistair Banks Griffin was awarded the New Talent Grand PIX at the 2011 CPH PIX Film Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark last month (worth 30,000 Euros, not too shabby!) for his debut feature film Two Gates of Sleep.
- The multi-talented Amy Seimetz, star of The Off Hours and Gabi on the Roof in July, dropped a line to let us know that she's just begun work on her next directorial effort, a feature film called Sun Don't Shine.
- The folks from Postales also checked in to mention that their film has just been selected to screen at the Shanghai International Film Festival next month. The film was recently reviewed in the Hollywood Reporter as well after its US Premiere at RiverRun.
- Kevin Tostado's doc Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story is just finishing up its NYC theatrical run this week and is playing in SoCal and the legendary Alama Drafthouse Cinema in Austin over the next few weeks (thanks for the reminder Kevin!).
- UNCSA alum Jeff Nichols' new film Take Shelter, starring 2011 Emerging Master honoree Michael Shannon, will have its international premiere later this month as part of the Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival! Congrats to Jeff and Michael and can't wait for the US theatrical release this fall!
- Also just recently were informed that last year's Audience Award Winner The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls will be getting a limited theatrical release here in the US starting this Friday, May 13, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
- On that same note, came across this article in Indiewire about Robert Persons' General Orders No. 9, which was recently picked up by Variance Films and will begin a limited theatrical run in June
If you happen to have heard any other juicy tidbits worth mentioning here, feel free to send us an email or mention it on our Facebook page! Congrats to all the local high school and college graduates in the Piedmont (many of whom have been student jurors and ambassadors for us in recent years) and happy belated Mother's Day to all of you RiverRun moms out there, wherever you are!
